Economic Security

economic-security-homepage.jpgMany seniors worry about finances: about having enough money to pay monthly bills, maintain a home or apartment, live reasonably comfortably, and not outspend their savings before the end of life. Such concerns may lead them to scrimp on necessities, or to fall prey to scam artists who promise to help them increase their income.

Communities can takes steps to assist in a variety of ways: by offering property tax relief for the elderly who live on limited incomes, providing discounts for public transportation and other public services, and educating the elderly and their families about financial fraud. Implementing these steps can make communities much more livable for older citizens, but also requires concerted and ongoing cooperation among local residents, government, and business leaders.
